Aldevron’s People: Our Passion is Unrivaled

I have been at Danaher for 12 years and have worked at five of its companies, most recently joining Aldevron in September 2021. At the time, I had the privilege of working in the role of transition leader for human resources. We worked with Aldevron’s existing HR team to implement Danaher’s processes and tools, as well as some of its important cultural components.

One element of Danaher’s culture that has really resonated with Aldevron’s people is a focus on incremental improvement. This mindset complements Aldevron’s legacy, which has always aimed to be a high-growth, action-oriented innovator that remains focused on the outcome of its work – improving patient health.

After the acquisition, we were thrilled to bring the Danaher Business System (DBS) to Aldevron. DBS, which was originally inspired by Toyota, is driven by a focus on incremental improvement. This means that instead of getting bogged down with aiming for double-digit growth every year, we focus on what we can do today to get a little bit better every day.

Here’s how that translates to the work we do every day at Aldevron: We maintain a culture that encourages associates to constantly try new ways of working, and we give them the freedom to either move those processes forward or fail quickly. Because of the fast growth that Aldevron is experiencing, our culture requires our associates and leaders to be cognizant of how we build sustainable processes today so that we can scale for tomorrow.

Incremental improvement also extends to our own growth as associates at Aldevron, which is why diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) are also top priorities here. We recently put together a team focused on establishing and sustaining a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture, where associates feel they belong and are empowered to be their authentic selves. Being part of Danaher enables our Aldevron associates to connect with resource groups under the Danaher umbrella that they want to join as either members or allies. Fostering this culture enables associates collaborate better with one another and our clients

Another key aspect of Aldevron’s culture is our connection to patients. Our dedicated Manager of Advocacy and Community Engagement, Sharon King, often brings in patients and their families, as well as patient advocates, to talk to our associates. We hear from clients about the therapies they are developing and the patients they hope to serve. Hearing the patient perspective, and engaging in patient advocacy ourselves, reminds us why we do this work together every day.

I was particularly inspired by one father, who was told that his baby was unlikely to make it to age 10 due to a rare disease. That child is now grown and married, having benefited from a company that worked to find a cure for the disease.

You can see why I often say that at Aldevron, our passion is unrivaled.

Looking ahead to the next 25 years, I’m excited to see how our strong and inclusive culture propels Aldevron’s growth. I like to say my mission is to inspire everyone around me to become more than they thought they could be. At Aldevron, that means encouraging associates to come up with creative solutions, to doing things a little bit differently, to advancing every day – and maximizing their own potential.
